Code of Student Conduct

The Collier County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct provides for recognition of the rights of students, including the right to learn. It provides for the recognition of responsibilities of students in respect to the rights of others and in respect to the obligation of all the schools to provide the order necessary for meaningful and effective instruction and learning.

The Code of Student Conduct is in force while the student is traveling to and from school, including, but not necessarily limited to, school-sponsored events, field trips, athletic functions, and other activities where appropriate administrators have jurisdiction over students.

Good order and discipline are best thought of as being positive, not negative; of helping a student to adjust, rather than to punish; of turning unacceptable conduct into acceptable conduct. It is also the presence of a friendly yet businesslike atmosphere in which students and school personnel work cooperatively toward mutually recognized and accepted goals.

The Code of Student Conduct is applicable to and enforced on all Collier County Public Schools students.

Discipline within the school is the joint responsibility of school personnel, students, and parents. Each staff member must thoroughly understand the discipline structure and must accept responsibility for making the system work. Teachers, who assume that their role is strictly to teach and that student discipline is someone else's job, are as much in error as administrators who hold that the good teacher can handle all problems of student discipline without any additional assistance. The Code recognizes the need for a cooperative relationship between student, parent, and educator. The following responsibilities reflect such a cooperative relationship:

Keep in regular communication with the school concerning their child's conduct and academic progress and communicate with the school any updated parent contact information to include phone number, e-mail, and home address.
Ensure that their child is in daily attendance and/or report and explain absences to school personnel.
Provide their child with resources needed to complete class work.
Ensure their child is well groomed, neat and clean.
Bring to the attention of school authorities any problem or condition which negatively affects their child or other children of the school community.
Discuss course selections, report cards, and work assignments with their child.
Ensure the good health of their child.
Foster a positive attitude toward the school.
Practice and encourage the District’s adopted character traits (Acceptance, Caring, Charity, Citizenship, Conscience, Cooperation, Courage, Fairness, Forgiveness, Honesty, Honor, Hopefulness, Integrity, Justice, Kindness, Patriotism, Perseverance, Respect, Responsibility, and Self-Control).
Exercise oversight and supervision of their child at District events to ensure their child is conducting himself/herself responsibly at such events.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Attend all classes and be prompt.
Be prepared for class with appropriate working materials.
Be respectful of individuals' property and rights.
Conduct themselves in a safe and responsible manner.
Be well groomed, clean, and neat.
Be responsible for their own behavior, conduct, and the consequences of their actions.
- Report to school authorities any problem, circumstance, or condition, including, but not limited to, illegal, dangerous, or unsafe behaviors involving themselves or others, which affect, in any way, their health, safety and/or security or the health, safety and/or security of others whether on or off campus.
- Not ignore what they have seen, experienced, or witnessed and should adhere to the message: "See it, Say it, Don't spread it, Report it!"
Abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the District, school, and/or individual classroom teacher.

La disciplina en la escuela es la responsabilidad conjunta del personal escolar, los estudiantes y los padres. Mantenerse en comunicación con la escuela referente al progreso académico y la conducta de su hijo(a) y comunicar a la escuela cualquier información de contacto actualizada de los padres, incluido el número de teléfono, el correo electrónico y la dirección particular.
Asegurarse que su hijo(a) asista a la escuela diariamente, reportar y explicar las ausencias de las mismas.
Proveer a sus hijos los recursos necesarios para completar el trabajo de la clase.
Asegurarse que su hijo sea ordenado, limpio, y que mantenga una apariencia bien cuidada.
Informar a una de las autoridades de la escuela sobre cualquier problema o condición pueda afectar, o esté afectando a su hijo(a), o a otros alumnos en la escuela.
Hablar con sus hijos sobre las calificaciones, la tarea y la elección de sus cursos.
Tratar de asegurarse que sus hijos mantengan buena salud.
Hacer lo posible para mantener una actitud positiva hacia la escuela.

Ser responsable de su propio comportamiento, de su conducta y de las consecuencias de sus actos.

Informar a las autoridades escolares de cualquier problema, circunstancia o condición, incluyendo,
pero sin limitarse a ello, comportamientos ilegales, peligrosos o inseguros que involucren a ellos
mismos o a otros, que afecten, de cualquier manera, su salud, seguridad y/o protección o la salud,
seguridad y/o protección de otros, ya sea dentro o fuera del campus.
No ignorar lo que han visto, experimentado o presenciado y deben adherirse al mensaje “¿Ves algo? ¡Dilo! ¡No lo difundas, Reportarlo!"

Acatar las normas y reglamentos establecidos por el Distrito, la escuela y/o el maestro de la clase individual.
