This club's purpose is to competitively debate in the Collier County debate circuit. There are 4 competitions per year. All competitions
are on Saturdays from about 8-1 with the exception of the finals which is a field trip that takes place during the school day. Students will learn rhetorical strategy, pro forma debate structure, how to judge pro forma debates, persuasive writing, and teamwork. If you are in the debate class, we will work on debate topics during class (periodically). However, even if you are in the debate class, you still
will need to practice with the team on the 2 Friday's prior to each competition, after school from 2:30-5:30. If you are not in the debate class, you ABSOLUTELY can still compete and participate. I will have lunch practices on Tuesday and Thursday and can also be flexible on other days. during lunch. We also can utilize CANVAS discussion boards and WebEX to get together if these times do not work out.
There are novice teams and varsity teams. If you have competed with the team last year and are comfortable, you will be promoted to Varsity. If you have never competed in high school (even if you
competed in middle school), you will begin as a novice debater. If you have never debated before, you will be a novice debater. We also need team members to help research, organize arguments, edit arguments, and assist me in "judging" practice rounds.
